Rain, rain, and more rain

It has been raining for hours and hours which prompted the closure of the 14th Street Bridge today (on the ONE DAY I needed to use it to get back from Fort McNair).  There are tornado warnings a few counties over.  What's next: frogs from the heavens?

It has been another whirlwind.  That phrase, "the days are long and the years are short" is ringing so true these days.

Since my last post:

+ We had a 5.9 earthquake in DC, right when I was wrapping up lunch with a friend who I did tons of disaster response training with at USAID back in the day! It took 40 minutes to get my car out of my downtown garage that day, and 20 to go 3 miles to get out of the District.  Good lesson that the evacuation "plan" for D.C. is a joke and I'll be parking in Arlington from now on.  The kids were somewhat freaked out by the "earth-shake" and drop-off to day-care was hard the following morning, but thankfully the many aftershocks didn't ruffle any feathers.

+ Hurricane Irene blasted in, but thankfully only temporary power loss to the house and no major branches or trees down, as feared.

+ Mommy, Z&C took our first solo plane ride to California on the morning before Irene hit.  As hoped...Z&C are studly little trooper travelers! yeah!!!  Tons of CA pics to follow with the cousins. Can't wait to go out again!

+ New school year in Pre-K this year.  Both kids are in 4-year-old classes that are right next door to each other and they LOVE their new teachers so far.  Now it's just deciding what's the plan for K next year...Catholic School vs. public? And which Catholic?

+ Daddy got promoted.
