Long overdue

I am long overdue in posting an update here. People always say the holidays are crazy, and while ours were pretty quiet (Christmas at home in CT with Lola and Grandpa, Uncle Dan, George and Mary and then New Year's here in DC) I don't know where the time has gone!

The photos are on the other computer...I will sift through them later and post some this evening.
Zoe and Caleb are now 9 months old, and weighed just over 17 lbs and just over 21 lbs respectively at their well-baby visit last week. They are the same length, though -- which of course I forgot to write down.

Caleb is a speedy little crawling fiend. It takes him less than five seconds to get into all kinds of mischief, trying to pull apart the diaper pail, trying to yank the dials off of daddy's amp, trying to climb the chest of drawers. Ah! He pulls himself up to standing on everything, and cruises around the furniture. He just barely squeezes into 12-month clothes and has chubby little Flintstone feet.

Zoe just started to pull herself to sit up on her own, and promptly pulled herself to standing in her crib. Of course, after about 5 minutes of gleeful hooting, she realized she didn't know how to get down and starting yelping for mama. She is still a skinny mini and loves to kick her feet at and on everything in sight. She has a fabulous full mouth smile now, and still likes spraying milk everywhere when she's having fun.

Cheerios are a huge hit, and both kiddos are making good use of their two little bottom teeth. We've tried everything from lentils to mango to raspberries to pureed turkey and they love it all. They enjoy hanging out with daddy all day, and we feel hugely blessed that they are pretty regular with their morning and evening naps and are asleep by 7:30 pm, and get up between 6:30 and 7:00 in the morning.

I've finally started getting back to the gym (in the wee hours) and am focused on juggling life, work, play, and good meals a little better than when we first moved back in September. [See, if I write it here, then that means that I HAVE committed to it!] But if any of you DC/No. VA/MD folks are reading this and ever want to walk to the zoo on the weekends, take a run, try out a yoga class, etc. etc. I'm game! I need all the external motivation I can get!! Tita Sara and Uncle Todd are doing great out in CA though we miss them and Anya and Maya all the time.

Daddy is doing really well with his Kaplan class and law school apps will be done this week! Wooohooo! It's a continuing part-time job trying to get the house sold in NM and manage the two households. Aunt Sarah and Uncle Carl in Madison, WI had a little girl, Z&C's fourth cousin, in December -- Ivy, joining big brother Alex.

We really enjoyed getting everyone's Christmas cards this year -- so many new babies and kids getting older. See below for the one we didn't use for ours...Santa was kinda stinky. Doesn't he look like he's about to have a coronary? The photo was snapped about 2 seconds before full on baby meltdowns.

It is bitterly cold in DC today, somewhere in the 20's. It feels like 10 years ago that we were digging out of 18" of snow in Albuquerque only 12 months ago. It's cozy snuggled on the couch with the laptop...I need one of those mugs that says "Mommy Loves Naptime!"
