Catching up

We attempted to take Z&C into the pool on the 8th floor, which they adored last year in their floatie rafts. This year they have the full-body flotation suits, but were not at all interested in going in the water. It's 5'5" deep throughout, and they had more fun splashing their feet and telling mommy to go fetch the pool toys they'd throw over (and sometimes at) my head.

I met a good friend and her daughter at the zoo a couple of Saturdays ago. All the kids had a fantastic time visiting with the pandas, elephants and in the reptile house. We got caught in a torrential downpour on the walk (which became a dead run) home, but I was thrilled that the kids were hooting "big FUNDER!!" with the thunder booming around us rather than getting freaked out.

We are scheduled to go to settlement on the new house in Falls Church next week. Then we head out for a long weekend in Connecticut to sort the ridiculous chaos that we left there after the New Mexico move -- boxes, clothes, some furniture, baby gear, etc. etc.

I've moved enough such that I actually enjoy it now. The sorting and discarding, evaluating and organizing is somehow therapeutic and makes you think about what is really important, and it sure as heck isn't something that fits in a box or in the back of a car.

Work brought me to NYC for a day last week for meetings, and I was able to go out for burgers with dad and take a long walk on an absolutely gorgeous evening. Mom has been in the Philippines visiting family and friends but gets home this weekend. Most of this week I was at work HQ in Washington State in back-to-back meetings for 4 days straight. It was a rough week overall. We went through a lay-off like so many other companies and non-profits. The economy seems on the surface to have been hit much harder out there as compared to the DC metro area bubble. I wonder what it all is going to be like when Z&C are my age, maybe married, working, with families of their own? Where will they be living? Where will Scott and I be?
